Robert Mariani is a Managing Director with more than 27 years of healthcare finance experience and has served in senior leadership positions at small and large hospitals throughout the NYC metropolitan area.  He has extensive experience leading teams in financial turnarounds and healthcare facility restructurings; identifying revenue opportunities; and improving financial reporting, treasury functions and decision support.

Throughout his career in highly visible and critical healthcare financial leadership positions, Rob’s highly refined understanding of hospital and healthcare finance, combined with his dynamic leadership skills and detailed approach to managing and reconfiguring critical financial processes, has led to repeated success and demonstrated value.

Rob has served in various capacities, including interim Chief Financial Officer at a substance use and mental health treatment provider with facilities located throughout the southeast.  Rob’s work includes oversight of financial reporting, treasury, cash management, and revenue cycle operations. His role included coordination with investors and lenders to meet all stakeholder expectations.

Additionally, Rob served as Chief Financial Officer of a for-profit health system (“Health System”) in one of the Northeast’s fastest growing sub-markets.  The Health System was undergoing a number of corporate and financial challenges, including the abrupt resignation of the CFO months after a new CEO was appointed, liquidity constraints, the execution of “going in-network” strategy, and a system comprised of three independently managed hospitals with unique demographic challenges and no system-wide budgeting, reporting, or strategic planning processes.  While overseeing all of the Health System’s finance functions, and with the assistance of other members of ToneyKorf Partners, Rob implemented several new initiatives aimed at addressing liquidity constraints, introduced detailed bottoms-up budget and strategic planning process across all facilities, and implemented several near-term savings initiatives. Ultimately, Rob assisted in the hiring process of the Health System’s full-time CFO, and he assured a smooth transition.

Rob previously served as advisor to the Bergen County Executive, and Bergen County Improvement Authority (“BCIA”), where he helped lead BCIA’s efforts in evaluating and selecting a new operator for the County-owned hospital (formerly Bergen Regional Medical Center).  The team helped transition the new operator into a lease agreement with the BCIA and provided ongoing assistance to the Bergen County Executive and BCIA.

As Chief Financial Officer from 2011 to 2016 at Interfaith Medical Center (“IMC”) in Brooklyn, New York, during IMC’s financial turmoil and insolvency, Rob provided leadership to maintain the financial stability and operations of the hospital. Inheriting a hospital and finance department in real crisis, Rob directed IMC’s financial planning and accounting practices, interacted with lending institutions, the NYS Department of Health, the IMC Board of Trustees, and many other internal and external stakeholders to reverse the downward financial trends and improve financial processes and functions. His work at IMC also included coordinating the organization’s participation in the NYSDOH Vital Access Provider Assurance Program.

Previously, Rob served in various Finance Department roles at Saint Vincents Catholic Medical Centers of New York (“SVCMC”), including Corporate Controller and Senior Vice President of Finance as well as supporting the Chief Financial Officer and leading financial reporting, general accounting, reimbursement, and corporate tax returns.

Early in his career, Rob worked for ten years at Ernst and Young as a Senior Manager in the New York Healthcare Audit Practice, where he led the annual external financial statement audits at many large New York City health systems and hospitals. Rob holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Manhattan College School of Business.  He is a Certified Public Accountant and maintains memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Health Care Financial Management Association.
