Mr. Toney is a founding member and Senior Managing Director of ToneyKorf Partners, LLC. With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Toney is a senior executive who is focused on interim and crisis management, operational reorganizations, financial revitalizations, and corporate turnarounds. He is results-driven, with a unique sense of vision and an emphasis on strategy, while maintaining a disciplined focus on execution and continuous improvement. Mr. Toney is known for the successful execution of complex projects, including those relating to operational improvements and organizational assessments and realignments. He is an adept negotiator, with a proven ability to achieve effective solutions through positive working relationships with attorneys, lenders, and other key parties.
Mr. Toney is nationally recognized as an accomplished leader in serving as senior management for publicly-traded, privately-held, and not-for-profit organizations that are underperforming, in transition, or reorganizing. He is also recognized for his balanced, independent, and creative thinking in difficult and complex situations. He has served in many roles as senior management, including that of the Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), Chief Restructuring Officer (“CRO”), and Chief Financial Officer. He has extensive experience with recruiting and leading executive management teams in difficult and challenging situations, including that of financial distress, loss or turnover of management, and other situations encountered by companies in transition.
As examples of Mr. Toney’s management roles, Mr. Toney currently serves as President, CEO and CRO at an acute care community hospital. Mr. Toney is assisting the organization in evaluating and implementing strategic options, including assisting in negotiations with a large regional healthcare system and various stakeholders as well as leading the organization in its day-to-day operations and preparing for merger and integration into the acquiring system.
Prior to this, he served as the CEO of Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where he successfully developed and led a strategy preventing the bankruptcy and closure of a vital organization. Prior to that, he was CRO of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center of New York (“St. Vincent’s”). Initially being hired by the senior lender as an advisor, by request of the Board and with support from the senior lender, Mr. Toney was hired by the Board of Directors of St. Vincent’s to serve as the crisis manager in this high profile and complex restructuring and Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which was one of the largest reorganizations within the healthcare industry.
Prior to co-founding ToneyKorf Partners in 2012, Mr. Toney was the National Managing Partner of Grant Thornton’s Corporate Advisory & Restructuring Services practice, as well as leading the investment banking services practice of the firm. Further, he was a Managing Director with AlixPartners, LLC, and a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. In addition, Mr. Toney was a Vice President in an investment banking and private capital firm where he structured acquisitions, negotiated purchase and sale agreements, arranged acquisition financing, and conducted target acquisition analysis.
Mr. Toney holds a B.S. in Business Administration from West Virginia University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, National Association of Corporate Directors, Association for Corporate Growth, and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. Toney is a frequent guest speaker on a variety of business, cultural and public policy topics.
